When you have done an evaluation for each area, color in the center of your (likely uneven) circle. One is highly dissatisfied, and a 10 is the absolute best (as you defined it in step 3). Then mark the line for your initial reaction as to how your life currently feels in that area. What does your life look like right now? Don’t overthink it, just start at any section on the circle. Don’t worry about being uber specific right now we’ll get to that later 😉 Make a quick note by each category of what level 10 ultimate success look like for you what will you have done, seen, heard, felt, etc.? For example, a level 10 health for me would be eating nutritious whole foods, regular exercise, and daily magical mama mornings. Sometimes it’s difficult to think about all of life’s priorities in context with one another and Zig-Zigler’s Wheel of Life exercise is the perfect assessment tool. This is necessary for setting the direction and being intentional about the life we want to have. However, it’s important to take a step back to evaluate where we are at and decide where we want to go.

Most of the time we’re just trying to make it through the day.

  • To be able to say "yes" to your priorities, you need to say "no" to other things.Life is busy and especially so for moms.
  • Which area is a source of stress and how does it affect your overall life satisfaction?.
  • Who are you becoming and who do you want to be?.
  • Which of these areas would you most like to improve? Why are they important for you?.
  • Which area do you tend to neglect or avoid? What impact does that have?.
  • How do you feel about your life as you look at your wheel?.
  • Your Wheel of Life Examples of Areas of Lifeįeel free to rename any area to make it meaningful to you. What may be satisfying or balanced for one person may be stressful or boring for someone else. Balance is personal and unique to each individual. Doing the exercise on paper will have more impact than simply thinking about it.
  • Indicate your current degree of satisfaction with each area of life (1 = very dissatisfied, and 10 = fully satisfied) by connecting the numbers in the segment to form a wedge.
  • Write the name of each area on the outer ring of a segment of the Wheel of Life.
  • Select eight "areas of life" from the examples on the next page that you would like to explore.
  • Consider doing the exercise periodically to benefit fully from it.
  • In one hour, you will have a snapshot of the areas of your life that are in balance today and an action plan for creating the changes you wish to make.
